The Rotary Club of Chatteris District 1080

The Rotary Club of Chatteris was formed in 1976 and is one of over 26,000 clubs which between them share over a million members spread throughout 187 Countries.

Service takes many forms at international as well as local level. There are many major projects such as PolioPlus which is designed to eliminate Polio in the world by 2005, and smaller ones where the aim may be to provide a piece of equipment for an elderly person or to assist local schools.

Over the years the Chatteris Club has been involved in many acts of service. Particularly well known in Chatteris and the nearby village communities has been the Chatteris float which, through its Christmas music has been the means of raising money for local charities and organisation's. Other important projects have included: The Towns Firework Display, clearing Footpaths, and continuing links with local schools.

At an International level the club has sent emergency supplies to disaster area’s, supported projects which are aimed at providing clean water in third world countries and sponsored visits by the young people on the youth and group study exchange schemes, both of which foster international goodwill and understanding.

Members meet every Monday evening in the Chatteris Fire Station, 7.30pm – 9.30pm. Except Bank holidays. Supper consists of starter, then main course followed by tea or coffee. Business meetings are held once a Month, with the other three regular meetings set aside for invited speakers, talks, and social evenings involving partners etc.

The club is small but very active; we also have gala dinners and other fund raising events where all members actively participate. Age ranges from just over 30 to just past retirement.
